    New District 8 City Rep. Cissy Lizarraga Sworn In

    It took a runoff to settle the "Special Election" for City Council Representative of District #8, but in the end Cecilia "Cissy" Lizarraga prevailed.  On July 15, 2017, Cissy Lizarraga defeated her opponent, Robert Cormell by a 55 to 44% margin and replaced Cortney Niland who resigned amid personal problems.  Mrs.

    The El Paso Police Department has just over 1,046 officers, which may seem like a healthy number and raise doubts about talk of an officer shortage in the nation’s safest big city. But at the Westside Regional Command Center’s noon shift briefing last Thursday, Sgt. Alan Romaner kicked things off with a three-officer crew that would be working until 10 p.m.
    El Paso Police Accepting Applications for Police Trainee

    The El Paso Police Departement continues to accept applications for the position of Police Trainee.  The filing period opened on July 6 and will close on Tuesday, August 1, 2017.  This recruitment is for police trainees for the 123rd Police Academy Class, scheduled to begin in February 0f 2018. The El Paso Police Department currently has 1051 sworn police officers.

      Last Friday, a class of 30 Cadets (2017-Delta) graduated and are now training on the job.  Last Monday, a class of 32 cadets (2017-Echo) started and we are expecting approximately 30 more cadets for 2017-Fox-Trot in just over a week on July 31, 2017. That’s approximately 90 new officers by October 5, 2017.

    The 18th Annual Keith Spangler Memorial Golf Tournament will be held on Friday, October 6, 2017, at Rebsamen Park Golf Course.   The tournament now raises funds for the LRFOP Foundation, Inc. which is a 501c3 organization.  The LRFOP Foundation has provided assistance to survivors of LRPD officers who are severely injured or who were killed in the line of duty.

    Pennsylvania State Police, Pennsylvania End of Watch: Friday, July 14, 2017 Trooper Michael Stewart was killed in a vehicle crash on Route 711, at the Route 271 split, in Ligonier Township, Westmoreland County, at approximately 2:20 am. His patrol SUV was traveling southbound when a garbage truck attempted to turn left onto the roadway in front of it, causing a collision.

    Littleton Police Officer Missing in Russia - Help Needed

    Brothers & Sisters, Steven Scott Beare is a Colorado police officer with the Littleton Police Department and a member of the FOP. Steven has gone missing during an expedition to climb Mt Elbrus. Mount Elbrus is the highest mountain in Russia, and the tenth most prominent peak in the world. Mt Elbrus is located in the Caucasus Mountains in Southern Russia, near the border with Georgia.

    Lower Valley park renamed after fallen police officer

    Carolina Recreation Center and Park in the Lower Valley was renamed to 'Officer David Ortiz Park' on Wednesday (June 14, 2017). City Council Representative Lily Limón and the City of El Paso Parks Department hosted the ceremony early Wednesday morning. Officer Ortiz graduated from Ysleta High School in 1989.

    The El Paso Municipal Police Officers’ Association sadly announces the passing of retired Officer Stephen B. Dyess #372. who passed away on June 14, 2017 at the age of 67.     (Ret.) Officer Dyess served the El Paso community as a peace officer for 20+ years.  He joined the El Paso Police Department in June of 1973 and retired on December 10, 1993.

    An off-duty Border Patrol agent stabbed outside a far east El Paso bar has died, police said. Isaac Morales, 30, was leaving a bar early Saturday when he was confronted by 39-year-old Hisaias Justo Lopez, who is accused of stabbing Morales to death with a knife.     394 Fallen Officers Honored During DC's Police Week Vigil

    The 29th Annual Candlelight Vigil at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial honored 394 officers who have died in the line of duty. U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Department of Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly spoke at the event and lead the crowd in the candle lighting. "We mourn these fallen officers. We cannot avoid this dark truth," Sessions said.
